Home Remedies for Dog Ear Mites

Unlike most mites that burrow in the skin, ear mites simply live in the ears. They can spread rapidly and can easily be transmitted to other animals through physical contact.

If untreated, the ear can become infected and permanent hearing loss can occur. Conventional treatments contain chemicals and should be avoided if possible. Natural remedies for ear mites in dogs are a better choice.

Symptoms of ear mites include excessive scratching of the ear, shaking of the head and dark brown crumbly wax in the ear. The affected ear may also be swollen and sensitive to touch.

Ear infections can also cause the above symptoms, so be sure you know the problem is ear mites before treating your dog. If you are unsure, have your veterinarian diagnose the problem.

Home Remedy

* Put a few drops of mineral, corn, almond or olive oil in the ear canal and gently massage the ear – this will help bring out inner debris. If the debris is really hard, let the oil sit for a few minutes to soften it up.

* Use a cotton ball (not cotton swab) to gently wipe away the debris in the outer part of the ear.

* Fill a bulb syringe with warm water and gently flush the debris from the ear canal.

You need to this every day for a month or longer to be sure all mites and eggs are gone.
